I did it! I ran my first REAL triathlon where I actually trained, and practiced and used a road bike instead of a mountain bike (never do this, trust me). It was so fun! I really did enjoy it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I signed up to do the Provo triathlon next Saturday!
Why did I post a picture of this helicopter? Because it was flying around right before the race began and chucked fun prizes out for all of the triathletes. Great idea, right? Actually, it got so close to the transition area that everyone's stuff (including some super expensive bikes) got blown all over the place. Yikes!
OK, so I'm not sure why this is out of order because I SPECIFICALLY tried to put the swim pic first, but here we are I guess. Anyway, I have to preface this post by saying: I HATE these pictures of me. I feel like I look 20 pounds heavier than I usually do, (and that's without the wetsuit!) so I didn't want to post these, but I really wanted to document this race...sigh.
THE SWIM: My swim time was OK. I was a little disappointed with it because I really got ran over by the other "ladies" at the start, and it took me a while to get moving. Swimming is usually my strong suit, and I feel like I have an advantage because I have a lot of experience with it, but I had a hard time keeping my face in the water and had to take a breath every other stroke. It was a lovely day though, and the water was perfect!
THE BIKE: Here I am on the bike looking pregnant. Ha, ha. Anyway, I was pretty happy with my bike time. This is my first time racing on a bike, so it was definitely my weakest leg, but for a first timer I actually did alright! I discovered that I really like it and that I can push myself harder next time.
THE RUN: My run was really my best performance. I can definitely run a 5K faster than I did, but after swimming and biking, AND the course being a little hilly I feel really good about it. I really need a triathlon top though because running in my bathing suit is not AT ALL flattering! Also, both of my transitions went perfectly! There is a lot that can go wrong in transition, especially for a newbie like me, but my great friend Sarah gave me some stellar advice. I have really appreciated her because she comes to these races to have fun and to WIN, (she did win by the way, way to go girl!) but she still took the time to help me out with warming up, setting up, training advice etc. etc. What a great friend and amazing athlete!
So, here are my final stats:
SWIM: 14:19
T1: 2:38
BIKE: 40:14
T2: 1:13
RUN: 24:29
Do these numbers mean anything to you? Me neither. What is a little more helpful is that I got 8th place out of 40 in my age group and 24th place out of 150 overall-not too bad for my first real go at it. It makes me excited for my next race because I am hoping I can do this one even faster!
But don't look at those pictures for too long, OK?

way to go Carlee, You are amazing! Good luck on the next one.
wow I am in amazement, your times are sooo good!! Well all I really know is the running, but seriously. Way to go Sarah for winning it as always :) Anyways keep it up!!
I am proud to call my friend! You are an inspiration. And heck NO you do not look prego in any of those pictures, I think if those pictures make you look big then you must be Hollywood skinny!
So amazing - I'm really impressed! It was funny seeing you the other day :)
You did so great. The times do mean something to me and they tell me that you are one fast lady and about to get a lot faster! And while these pictures don't look bad at all, you ARE skinnier and prettier in "real life". I know how it goes... But your top is a tri top, is not it? Anyway, good luck next week! I really wish I could be there and cheer you and everyone else on but I am thinking I need a little break from triathlon. I have not even raced tomorrow and I am already done :-)
way to go, friend! not sure what the numbers mean, but i am still super impressed:)
You're awesome Carlee! Great times! I'm glad that you are doing the Provo Tri so I'll finally get to come and cheer you on!
Every single time I read about your running or other athletics, I am seriously so amazed! (And then I feel lazy...) I'm not savvy enough for the numbers to mean much to me, but just the fact that you even did a triathlon impresses the heck out of me! Way to go!
I am inspired, in awe, and jealous. But mostly the first one. Great job Carlee!
Way to go Carlee!!! You are such a motivator for me!! Can't wait to catch up when we get back!
Amazing....I don't think I could even finish the race. You are so dedicated...I wish I loved running.
