I heart Andy

If you haven't had the pleasure of getting to know Andy Bernard from "The Office" you are totally missing out. I cannot stress this enough. That is all.

What we've been up to.....

Well, so far I have kind of stunk at keeping my new year's resolution to be more bloggy, but I don't feel bad because January and February have been very busy, so here's what we've been up to:
you know how a lot of my pictures of Reid have been kind of overshadowed by "the bink?" (see picture above) Well, I decided to get rid of it during the day, and I let him have it at night. BIG change, but he has done GREAT, and he doesn't even ask for it anymore.

In other news: when we got back from Washington we had Reid in the tub, (one of his favorite places) and our shower head came crashing down on him. It was HILARIOUS at the time because it didn't hurt him, but it scared him so bad that he freaked out and jumped out of the tub and ran around the house naked and screaming. Unfortunately, it kind of scarred him, and as you can see from the picture above he wouldn't even stand in the tub fully clothed for fear of the shower. That's a problem, because let's face it, kids need to bathe.

I called lots of people for advice, and Grandma Tulett suggested that we try bubbles. So, we started calling bath time "bubble time" and dad would fill the tub with bubbles and sit in the tub while Reid stood there and played, but he still wouldn't get in.

Then after a few days of this, Reid finally got in, but wouldn't sit down. After a few days of this he would sit down but ONLY if dad was in there too. Fortunately, he has finally come around, and once again enjoys the bath by himself...but ONLY if we call it bubble time. Silly boy. Whew! It was a long and painful process! I never IMAGINED that something like this would be part of being a mom!

Next up on the docket: Big boy bed. I decided that Reid needed to be comfortable in one before little brother gets here, so we got this little beauty. I let it sit in his room for a few days before I decided to attempt the switch. I cannot believe how smooth it was! We got this right after we got home, and he hasn't fallen out once! It has really been a breeze! (which is rare, because Reid likes to make things difficult sometimes...)


I just thought this was cute. My two cooking and cleaning domesticated guys. I just love modern society...

The biggest news of all (and the most time-consuming) is that I decided to take the plunge and potty train. We started one week ago, and went cold turkey. No diapers of any kind, (except at night) only big boy underwear, and we set the timer so that every 20 minutes is "potty time." Boy has it been a tiring roller coaster, but I have to say that after a week he generally has no pee accidents all day long. The hard thing now is that he has only pooped on the potty a couple of times, and doesn't enjoy it, but he has done amazingly well and I am SO proud of him! My friend Jessica is doing this same method with her little boy, and is a few days ahead of me, so I have had a lot of support from her. It's nice to have someone a few steps ahead of you to show you the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks, Jess!

So, that is where I have been these past few weeks. I have been too worn out to do much else. Reid has really grown up a lot lately, and I find myself really missing my little boy! I will keep you all updated on how the potty training is coming along!

Finally, Something New!

So, I am here to tell you the two reasons why I am lame 1.) I haven't posted anything in FOREVER, and 2.) I spent almost a month in Washington and hardly took any pictures. I guess I didn't really think about it, so I have NO pictures of Reid with his wonderful grandparents/ aunts and uncles. I will have to do better next time!

One of the fun things that we did was we went on a train ride with Nate's family to the "north pole" to see Santa. It was sooo cold! I tried to take a self-portrait with the Reidster and I, and this is what we came up with (see giant faces above.)

Here Reid is sitting on a kind-of-creepy Santa. He wasn't super excited, but he didn't scream bloody murder like he did last year. That's progress, baby.

Now we are jumping over to Christmas morning at my dad's (Papa's) house. Reid kind of "got it" this year and was pretty excited about all of great gifts. Papa sure spoils him! (and us too!)

We did a lot of other fun things too! We went and visited Nana (my mom) on Christmas eve, and we got to see my brother Josh and his family, as well as my sister, Icel and her family. (of course, I am too much of a space cadet and didn't take any pictures!) Washington had the biggest snow storm ever, and since Seattle doesn't "do" snow we got a little home bound, but that just meant more time with family. Also more time with TV shows that I haven't watched in ages. Woot.

For whatever reason I got real camera happy when we took Reid and his cousin, Audrey to this neat little jumpy castle place. Reid and Audrey have the greatest time together, and when you combine that with blow-up slides you get pure joy...

So, Christmas was awesome, and one of my new year's resolutions is to be a better blogger (and picture taker!). I just get so lazy sometimes!

Stats:

Reid just went into the doctor for his 2-year check up, and here's where he stands (literally):

Head Size: 50th %
Weight: 52nd %
Height: 70th %

That's right ladies and gentlemen. A child produced by Nate and I is in the 70th percentile for height! I am so excited. I know he's just two and so much can change over the course of his life, but I have been hoping that Reid might get all those tall genes from Nate's side of the family instead of being a shortie like me, so keep your fingers crossed that he'll be taller than 5' 8". That's all I ask, really.

Also, I chose this picture because Reid was calling for help the other day, and I found him like this. He was playing in the sink and let go with his feet and got stuck. So what did I do? I grabbed the camera before helping him like any good mommy would. And yes, our bathroom really is that small. =(

I went to my 20 week checkup/ultrasound, and here is how fat I have gotten! The good news is that it's still a boy, (he was NOT shy about that, but he refused to let us see his face) everything looks healthy and normal, AND I have only gained 4 pounds! woohoo! You can't tell by how fat I look, but scales don't lie! I have been a lot better about exercising this time, and I think my marathon training is paying off!

Reid's B-day Party

So, because Reid's birthday landed on Thanksgiving this year we decided to throw him a low-key party the week after for all of his "friends." The delicious looking specimen you are feasting your eyes upon (above picture) is the ridiculously awesome cake Katrina and I made. OK. It's not that amazing, but considering the fact that I decorated it ALL BY MYSELF makes me feel like a good mommy who is crafty.

This is Reid's little buddy, Jonathan. He sure is a cutie, and he manages to bring the noise level down a notch with his sweet disposition.

Reid has never enjoyed wearing party hats for some reason. Personally, I think it's because he hasn't figured out that he can put it over his forhead and run at the other kids like a rhino when they get too close to his presents. Just my opinion.

Singin' Happy Birthday!

True to tradition, I took the cake away and gave Reid his very own cupcake. Matt said; "show us how to eat like a piggy," and Reid said; "sure."

Here Reid is unwrapping his beloved firetruck. Those of you who have not spent a lot of time with Reid may not know that firetrucks are his most favorite thing in the world. Also, don't mind that our son is white trash. We always have to strip him down to his diaper when he eats because he's SO MESSY!

Thanksgiving and Reid's second birthday

For Thanksgiving this year we were invited to My sister-in-law's parent's (if that makes sense!) house in Idaho. They live way out in the middle of nowhere, but it sure was beautiful! (see above photo).

CUTE BUTTS!

I didn't really see much of Reid over the weekend because he was having too much fun with his cousin Audrey. Seriously, these two didn't want to have anything to do with us because they were playing so well! It was so fun to see Reid and Audrey getting along so well!

Andrea's parents have horses, cows, a trampoline, cats and lots of dirt. That's all Reid really needs to be happy.

We went on a little hike, and that's me and Andrea in back and my niece Katrina and Andrea's sister Natalie in front.

My mom also flew in from Seattle to spend Thanksgiving with us. We had lots of fun!

They had those big round hay bails that look like giant marshmallows when you cover them in the winter, (does anyone know what I'm talking about?) and Reid had a great time sliding down them with Andrea's dad.

Reid's 2nd birthday also happened to fall on Thanksgiving this year, so my mom got him his first bike and helmet set. He was a little nervous to try it out, but after dad showed him how it's done he was much less afraid.


Papa also sent him his first lap top! It's a little advanced for him, but he still loves playing with all of the buttons! Also, Nate's parents sent him three toy airplanes that he has been loving! Reid sure has some awesome grandparents!


So, thanksgiving was a lot of fun. It was so nice to have someplace to go and family to see as we have been deprived of family contact way out here in Utah. Andrea's family was so kind and wonderful, and it was great to see my mom as well. We can't wait to come home for Christmas!!!

P.S. At Andrea's request, I changed my baby-countdown thingy from the creepy floating baby to something easier on the eyes. You're welcome, America.

First Hair Cut...

Reid has had a hard time growing hair over the years, but as you can see from this picture it has gotten kind of long and wispy, so I let Nate bust out the clippers and go to town!


He really only did the back, but it makes a big difference, and Reid looks more like a little boy now! Where has my little baby gone?!
